We in the Westerville bands community want to extend heartfelt sympathy to our friends at Westerville South High School. Last weekend, the South Marching Band was busy with a double-header of two marching band competitions at the Athens Invitation and then at the Warren Local competition. During the day, a band parent experienced a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Despite the best efforts of the local first responders, the parent died.
We share the shock and grief of this sad event and wish to say how sorry we are to the family of the deceased and to the Westerville South music community. The North and South families have shared much this season between planning and hosting the Westerville Invitational, coordinating the Middle School band night, watching and cheering on each other's show performances, sharing staff connections and student friendships, and just by understanding the work and commitment needed every week to be the best band that we can both be.
It is wonderful to celebrate the good moments, but it is also vital to support one another in difficult times. And so we say to our friends at South . . . we pray for you. We wish you well. We stand ready to help you when you need it. We are thinking of you during this time of trouble. Thank you for sharing this community and we look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come.
